Open and quit the application

After installation, the application starts running in the background. Later, the application starts when the operating system starts.

Open the application to set up Kaspersky Safe Kids for your child, change the computer account assigned to your child, pause Kaspersky Safe Kids, or stop the application.

Note: If you quit Kaspersky Safe Kids, the application continues to monitor your child in the background.

Open the application

  1. Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock.

    A window with the list of applications opens.

  2. Click the Kaspersky Safe Kids icon.

The main application window opens. The appearance of the main application window depends on whether the computer account you have logged in to is monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids.

Quit the application

  1. Control-click the Kaspersky Safe Kids icon in the Dock.
  2. Select Quit.

Kaspersky Safe Kids continues to monitor your child in the background.

Add your children's details to Kaspersky Safe Kids

You can add your children's details to Kaspersky Safe Kids in the application or on My Kaspersky.

Add your children's details to Kaspersky Safe Kids

  1. Open the main application window.
  2. Open the list of children and their accounts:
    • If you are logged in to a computer account that isn't monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids, click Children and accounts at the bottom of the main application window.
    • If you are logged in to a computer account that is monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids, click Iʼm a Parent and then click Children and Accounts.

  3. In the prompt for My Kaspersky credentials, enter the password for your My Kaspersky account and click Continue.

  4. Click Add Child.

  5. Enter your child's details:
    • Select a picture for your child in one of the following ways:
      • Select a preset picture.
      • Upload a picture from the computer.
      • Add a picture taken with the webcam.
    • Enter the child's name in the Name field.
    • Select the child's birth year in the Birth year field.

      Note: Your child's age determines the default settings that Kaspersky Safe Kids uses to monitor your child's computer account.

  6. Click Continue.

The Select the account that <child name> uses on this computer window opens. In this window, you can select or create your child's computer account.

Turn on monitoring of your child

You can turn on monitoring of your child on a selected computer account after you add the child's details to Kaspersky Safe Kids.

Turn on monitoring of your child

  1. Open the main application window.
  2. Open the list of children and their accounts:
    • If you are logged in to a computer account that isn't monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids, click Children and accounts at the bottom of the main application window.
    • If you are logged in to a computer account that is monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids, click Iʼm a Parent and then click Children and Accounts.

  3. In the prompt for My Kaspersky credentials, enter the password for your My Kaspersky account and click Continue.
  4. A window with the list of children opens.
  5. In the list of children, click Assign next to a child that you want be monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids.

    If your child is not on the list, you can add your child's details by clicking Add Child.

    The Select the account that <child name> uses on this computer window opens.

  6. Select the computer account for your child.

    If your child doesn't yet have an account on the computer, you can create a new account by selecting Create an account for <child's name>.

    Note: Kaspersky Safe Kids only monitors standard computer accounts. If your child uses an administrator account, you can select the account and the application will convert it to a standard account. If the account is the only administrator account on your Mac, you will have to create another administrator account before the account is converted.

  7. Click Continue.

    A window opens informing you that the child is now protected.

Click Done.

Pause and resume Kaspersky Safe Kids

You can pause Kaspersky Safe Kids for a specified period of time. When you pause Kaspersky Safe Kids, all restrictions are ignored. The child can visit forbidden websites, use forbidden applications, and spend an unlimited amount of time on the computer.

The application resumes automatically when the time you specified is over.

You can only pause Kaspersky Safe Kids on your child's computer account. Kaspersky Safe Kids can't be paused from a parent's computer account or remotely from another computer.

Pause Kaspersky Safe Kids

  1. Log in to your child's computer account.
  2. Open the main application window.
  3. Click Iʼm a Parent.

  4. Click Pause Kaspersky Safe Kids.

  5. In the prompt for My Kaspersky credentials, enter the password for your My Kaspersky account and click Continue.

    The Pause Kaspersky Safe Kids window opens.

  6. In the pop-up menu, select the amount of time, for which you want to pause Kaspersky Safe Kids.
  7. Click Pause.

Kaspersky Safe Kids is paused until the selected time has elapsed or until the condition for resuming Kaspersky Safe Kids is satisfied.

You can resume Kaspersky Safe Kids manually without waiting for the specified period to elapse.

Resume Kaspersky Safe Kids

  1. Log in to your child's computer account.
  2. Open the main application window.
  3. Click Resume Kaspersky Safe Kids.

Kaspersky Safe Kids resumes monitoring of your child's computer account.

Turn off monitoring of your child

If you don't want Kaspersky Safe Kids to monitor the computer account of your child anymore, you can turn off the monitoring.

Turn off monitoring of your child

  1. Open the main application window.
  2. Open the list of children and their accounts:
    • If you are logged in to a computer account that isn't monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids, click Children and accounts at the bottom of the main application window.
    • If you are logged in to a computer account that is monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids, click Iʼm a Parent and then click Children and Accounts.

  3. In the prompt for My Kaspersky credentials, enter the password for your My Kaspersky account and click Continue.

  4. For the child whom you want Kaspersky Safe Kids to stop monitoring, choose the Unassign account item in the pop-up menu.

Kaspersky Safe Kids stops monitoring your child's computer account. You can turn on monitoring of your child by assigning the account again.

Allow a website or an application on a child's request

The child can request permission to visit a forbidden website or use a forbidden application. This feature lets you adjust Kaspersky Safe Kids settings on the go as needed.

How it works

When your child tries to open a forbidden website or application, Kaspersky Safe Kids blocks it and displays a notification. Your child can click Ask for Permission to request access to the forbidden website or application. The request is automatically displayed on My Kaspersky and on your smartphone or tablet with Kaspersky Safe Kids installed.

You communicate your decision to your child using the Allow or Decline buttons. Your decision is automatically displayed on your child's computer.

Automatic changes to Kaspersky Safe Kids settings

Approved websites and applications are automatically added to the exclusion list and thereafter become allowed for your child. If you wish to change your decision, you can remove a website or application from the exclusion list. For more details, see My Kaspersky help.

Add computer time on a child's request

Your child can request additional computer time in Kaspersky Safe Kids. This feature lets you remotely adjust Kaspersky Safe Kids settings as needed.

How it works

A few minutes before your child reaches the daily limit on computer time, Kaspersky Safe Kids provides a notification to your child about the approaching break. In the main application window, your child can click Request More Time to request additional computer time. The requests are displayed on My Kaspersky and on your smartphone or tablet with Kaspersky Safe Kids installed.

You communicate your decision to your child using the Allow or Decline buttons. Your decision is automatically displayed on your child's computer.

The weekly schedule is not changed.

Enable or disable tracing

Tracing is a way to record detailed information about the application's activity. Kaspersky Technical Support specialists use trace files to troubleshoot issues. You can enable application event logging to create trace files and send them to Technical Support if requested. By default, application event logging is disabled.

Enable logging of data to trace files

  1. Log in to an account that isn't monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids.
  2. Open Kaspersky Safe Kids.
  3. In the menu bar, choose Help > Enable Tracing.

Disable logging of data to trace files

  1. Log in to an account that isn't monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids.
  2. Open Kaspersky Safe Kids.
  3. In the menu bar, choose Help > Disable Tracing.

Important: Turn on tracing only when a Technical Support specialist asks you to do so.

Update Kaspersky Safe Kids

A Kaspersky Safe Kids update fixes bugs, adds new features, and improves the performance of existing features.

Kaspersky Safe Kids checks update server once a week for a new version of application. If a new version is available, Kaspersky Safe Kids shows a notification.

If you update the premium version of Kaspersky Safe Kids, you continue to use the premium version of the application after the update.

Update Kaspersky Safe Kids

  1. Log in to an account that isn't monitored by Kaspersky Safe Kids.
  2. Open Kaspersky Safe Kids.
  3. In the menu bar, choose Kaspersky Safe Kids > Check for Updates.

If a newer version is available, Kaspersky Safe Kids starts updating in the background.

Note: If the End User License Agreement changes in connection with an update of Kaspersky Safe Kids, you must accept them before you can install the new version of the application.
