Safe Browsing

Safe Browsing checks websites before opening them for you. It blocks malicious websites, which try to distribute malware, and phishing websites, which try to steal your confidential data and gain access to your financial accounts.

You must use a protected browser to be protected on the internet. See the list of protected browsers.

Safe Browsing is available in the Standard, Plus, and Premium subscription plans for the Kaspersky app.

Safe Browsing uses

Supported browsers

Safe Browsing only checks websites in Google Chrome, Firefox, and Yandex Browser (requires Android 7.0 or later).

This feature may also work with pre-installed browsers of some devices, for example Samsung Internet on a Samsung device and Huawei Browser on Huawei devices. Other browsers are not supported.

Due to technical limitations, Safe Browsing may not detect all malicious websites that you open in Yandex Browser. We are currently working to overcome these limitations and make the feature work in this browser in the same way it works in other supported browsers.

To use Safe Browsing while browsing the internet, set Google Chrome, Firefox or Yandex Browser as your default browser.

When Safe Browsing is enabled, it automatically checks the default browser. If one of the supported browsers is not set as the current default, the app prompts you to change the default browser to a supported one.

If you do not want to change your default browser, launch one of the supported browsers separately to safely use your personal data on the internet. You can start a supported browser from Kaspersky app All Features section by tapping Safe Browsing > Open browser or by tapping the browser app in your device's app menu.

On Huawei devices without Google services, set Huawei Browser as your default browser to use Safe Browsing.

How to set the default browser

This section only gives general instructions. Please refer to the user guide provided by your device's manufacturer for more precise instructions.

  1. Open your device's Settings app > Apps.
  2. Select Default Apps > Browser app.

Depending on your device, Default Apps appears as soon as you open the section or can be found in the menu of the Apps section.

  3. Choose Google Chrome, Firefox or Yandex Browser (or Huawei Browser on a Huawei device without Google services).

Now Google Chrome, Firefox, Yandex Browser or Huawei Browser is your default browser. You can use Safe Browsing and turn on the Check in-app links feature.

About crypto scams

Crypto scams are a variety of cybercrime that aim to steal cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin.

Types of crypto scams

Crypto scams can take the following forms:

  • Fake websites and crypto wallets. Scammers create a fake site that mimics a known crypto exchange or a fake wallet. Such a website can be hard to tell apart from the real thing because the domain name and layout of the website closely resemble the original. Users visit the fake website and enter their sensitive information, revealing it to the scammers.
  • Crypto phishing. Scammers create phishing links that lead to fake websites, crypto exchanges, or investment platforms. These links are then emailed to victims or placed on other websites. Users click the links, losing their data or funds.
  • Fake investments in a "new" cryptocurrency. Scammers create a sham proposal to invest into a new project, for example, a new cryptocurrency. Interested users send funds to the specified crypto wallet, but no cryptocurrency is in fact created, and the invested funds are never returned.
  • Fake cryptocurrency investment opportunities. Scammers advertise lucrative cryptocurrency investment opportunities on social networks, promising to return the invested amount severalfold. Instead of the promised income, users lose the invested amounts.
  • Scams involving the purchase of mining hardware. Users pay for cryptocurrency production (mining) hardware, but never receive the promised items.
  • Fake cryptocurrency purchasing websites. Scammers create a website where you can ostensibly purchase cryptocurrency for fiat at a good exchange rate. You send the money but get nothing in return.
  • Pump-and-dump schemes involving cryptocurrencies. Scammers launch a massive advertising campaign to prop up an individual cryptocurrency. They promise that the price of the cryptocurrency will continue to grow. Investors rush to purchase the cryptocurrency being advertised. Scammers then quickly sell off the cryptocurrency at the elevated price, which can cause its price to crash below the initial level within minutes.

How the Kaspersky app recognizes crypto scams

The Kaspersky app checks links on websites against a regularly updated database of phishing web addresses and fake cryptocurrency exchanges. If the website or crypto exchange is fake, the app will notify you and block your access before the resource can harm you.

Content filtering in Japan

Web Control is available only in the app in Japan to comply with the Japanese law.

Web Control is available in Standard, Plus, and Premium subscription plans for Kaspersky app.

Web Control allows you to manage web content on a mobile device and protect against unwanted online content. For example, you can install Kaspersky app on your child's device and choose which web content categories and specific websites will be available to him or her.

Web Control includes Malicious Content Shield, which blocks URLs leading to websites containing dangerous pirated material (as identified by the Safer Internet Association working with the Japanese government). This filter also prevents access to sites created to steal personal information and financial details (as identified by Japan’s National Police Agency).

You must use a protected browser to be protected on the internet. See the list of protected browsers.

To set up Web Control,

  1. On a child's device, open Kaspersky app.
  2. On the bottom tab bar in the Kaspersky app, tap All Features.
  3. Tap Safe Browsing.
  4. Tap Settings on the Browser with protection screen.
  5. Tap Configure Content Filter and set the secret code to make sure that only an adult can change these feature settings.

If you need to, you can add alternative access options.

  6. Tap Content filtering settings on the Safe Browsing screen.
  7. In the Content filtering mode that opens, set up age limitations. If you select Custom, you can manually block access to specific website categories.
  8. Go back to the Safe Browsing screen.

The Web Control is set up.

If necessary, you can add websites to the list of exclusions. Web Control doesn't block websites added to the list of exclusions even if they belong to restricted categories.

To exclude specific websites,

  1. On the bottom tab bar in Kaspersky app, tap All Features.
  2. Tap Safe Browsing.
  3. Tap Settings on the Browser with protection screen.
  4. Tap Configure filtering settings and enter your secret code.
  5. Tap Exclusions.
  6. On the Exclusions screen that opens, tap Add exclusion and enter the website address. Access to all webpages of the specified website is allowed.

If you want to allow access to only a single webpage, enter its address and select the Allow access to only this page of this website check box.

  7. Tap Add exclusion.
  8. Go back to the Safe Browsing screen.
